Music morning in North West Hampshire

Many thanks to the people who came from across North West Hampshire for the musicians’ morning today.

We looked at music for the new translation of the mass, especially focusing on resources for worshipping communities with few musical resources, and some music for Ascension and Pentecost too.

We also previewed our Mass of St Brelade, some pieces from our new Common Psalms collection currently in development and the newly-published The Freedom Liturgy.

There was a atmosphere of sharing and participation, and hopefully everybody went away with something to use in their own church.

We’re pleased to announce that our first setting of the mass is published.

The Freedom Liturgy is a fresh and energetic setting of the Mass for piano/keyboard, guitar and instruments. It features settings of the Penitential Act, Glory to God, Holy Holy Holy, Mystery of Faith, Doxology and Amen, and Lamb of God.

This work is published with the approval of the Department for Christian Life and Worship of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.

Full accompaniment, vocal and assembly editions are available for purchase now. Instrumental parts and MP3 backing tracks will be available shortly.

Note that the assembly edition can be photocopied for congregational use provided you have bought sufficient copies of the full / vocal editions for all the musicians and singers in your worshipping community.

New: Litany of the Saints

Just in time for Easter, our setting of the Litany of the Saints for the Easter Vigil is available from the online store, revised for use with the 2010 translation of the mass.

This setting has been approved for publication by the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.

The main section invoking the saints follows a simple repeating melody throughout with the accompaniment becoming more elaborate and the addition of optional choir parts. In the final section, the momentum unwinds and gradually returns to the very simple chords of the beginning of the piece.
